Into the depths of the cellar, torch in hand, to uncover a few treasured bottles we’ve quietly set aside over the years. These are wines with stories. Wines that have rested, evolved, and are now ready to be shared once more.
We’re proud to present the Museum Cellar selection of aged gems that showcase the depth, patience, and pleasure of our winemaking journey. Some are rare. Some are bold. All are drinking beautifully now.
Quantities are extremely limited, and each bottle holds a piece of our history.
In 2010, when we purchased our Nuraip Road vineyard, we were privileged to become custodians of a 1846 stone cottage.
In 1846, after the Hahn family fled Prussia, they were generously offered land in the Barossa Valley to start their new journey. Their first thoughts were of survival — working the land to pay for that land and, eventually, to build a home.
They lived under a tree for two years and welcomed their third child during that time, all while beginning to build the cottage that now watches over our vineyard. The build itself took two years. The first and most important part was the cellars: two large underground spaces that run the full depth beneath each end of the cottage. The beams alone are visually incredible, and it’s hard not to let your mind wander to the sheer manpower, horsepower, and determination it took to put them in place. Once used for preserving produce to see the family through the year, one of those cellars is now dedicated solely to our museum collection of wines.
Since 2005, Michael and I have been quietly putting wines aside so that future customers can purchase bottles with some age – and, for those who have only just discovered us, to be able to journey back in time through our wines.
Over the years, our winemaking has moved through two distinctive chapters, and we feel we are now in our third – where we have truly settled into our Yelland & Papps style with confidence and conviction.
Although these wines have been resting quietly and patiently in the cellar, it has taken me some time to curate a list to share with our customers. A few lucky visitors have already had the chance to wander down into the cellar, and we hope this is something we can offer more of in the future.
