The Limited Cuvée wines are rare, small-parcel releases made only in select vintages, when certain vineyard blocks show exceptional character and distinction. These wines reflect the unique potential of sites that, in standout years, reward above and beyond expectation.

The Barossa Valley is rightly celebrated for Shiraz and Grenache, but for Susan & Michael, Roussanne is the white variety that truly belongs here also, thriving in the region’s warm climate and diverse soils.
The Limited Cuvée wines are rare, small-parcel releases made only in select vintages, when certain vineyard blocks show exceptional character and distinction. These wines reflect the unique potential of sites that, in standout years, reward above and beyond expectation. Opulent yet restrained, these wines are traditionally made. Spontaneous natural yeast fermentation and matured in French oak before classification. Susan & Michael’s intent is to capture the most elegant, expressive fruit from each vintage, creating wines of structure, finesse, and immediacy.
Crafted for quality, not quantity, Limited Cuvée wines are made to drink beautifully on release yet will also reward careful cellaring. The 2025 Limited Cuvée releases arrive with immense pride and quiet satisfaction. The return of a Roussanne of this calibre, alongside a Grenache that feels deeply honest to both site and season, gives a strong sense of alignment with the direction these wines are naturally taking.
These releases feel less like a statement and more like an evolution — wines that increasingly reflect the refinement, restraint and quiet confidence we seek with each passing vintage.

 

Limited Cuvée Roussanne 2025

12-36 hours on skins, 100% free run juice, barrel ferment, eleven months in 39% new French Oak, eight months bâtonnage
Greenock, Barossa Valley 0.6 ha planted in 2001 and now tendered by David Materne, this western Barossa site sits on red clay and ironstone soils that bring both structure and depth to the wines. Positioned at elevation with excellent sun exposure and low yields, the vineyard consistently produces fruit of intensity and natural balance—showcasing the bold, brooding character that Greenock is known for, with a core of elegance that reflects careful, thoughtful farming. Sourced from vineyards rooted in loam over clay soils, this site provides natural vigour and depth—yielding fruit with plush texture, fine tannins, and a grounded sense of place.

Limited Cuvée Grenache 2025

Fifteen days on skins, 50% whole cluster, large format french oak for eleven months 32% new oak
Vine Vale, Barossa Valley 1.0 ha two kilometres east of the winery, this dry-grown Grenache vineyard in Vine Vale was planted in 1956 and is tended by Kevin Schild. Sandy loam over clay, with an east–west aspect, allows for even ripening under warm days and cool nights. Naturally low yielding, the site gives a Grenache of quiet concentration, fine structure, and a clear expression of place.

This year’s releases mark a quiet but significant evolution for the Limited Cuvée wines — both in presentation and philosophy.
The elevated label redesign reflects what these wines have become: more refined, more composed, and increasingly aligned
with the elegance we seek in the glass.
These releases also continue our considered sustainability pathway. The Limited Cuvée wines now transition to the Carbon
Neutral NDtech® natural cork closures developed by Amorim — where every cork is individually analysed to eliminate the risk of TCA contamination — we have continued the packaging with the POLYNATURE capsule: vegetal in origin, food-grade, recyclable and biocompatible.
The wines are now bottled in a lighter premium Burgundy bottle, reducing glass weight by 254 grams per bottle compared to previous Limited Cuvée releases — a reduction of over 1.5 kilograms per six-pack and more than 3 kilograms per dozen.
The 2025 releases represent an important step forward for Yelland & Papps: a continued pursuit of elegance, detail and
thoughtful sustainability, without compromise to the integrity of the wines themselves. Limited Cuvée Wine Releases
With the Limited Cuvée wines, the Shiraz will always remain slightly apart from the others — requiring longer élevage and
therefore released a vintage behind the Grenache and Roussanne. It is a wine that asks for more time in barrel and in bottle
before release. There was no 2024 Limited Cuvée Shiraz produced unfortunately, severe frost through the vineyard reduced the parcel beyond what we felt worthy of the label. Looking ahead, the next chapter will see the release of the 2025 Limited Cuvée Shiraz alongside the 2026 Limited Cuvée Grenache, sourced from a new vineyard site that quietly excites us for the future. There will be no 2026 Limited Cuvée Roussanne. The intense heat through January shaped the season heavily, and while small volumes were produced, the wine did not reach the standard and character we seek for this cuvée. As always, these wines are only released when both season and site align.

The range champions varieties and styles that speak of elegance and structure: medium-bodied Grenache with savoury nuance, refined Syrah that emphasises spice and finesse, and beautifully textured whites such as Roussanne. As a Barossa Valley producer, the winery also presents its own interpretation of Barossa Shiraz — structured, savoury and balanced, expressing depth without excess. Each wine reflects a deliberate pursuit of authenticity and terroir-driven character.
Yelland & Papps demonstrates that Barossa wines can be powerful yet poised, expressive yet restrained — a harmonious meeting of New World energy and Old World soul.

Vintage Report 2025
Vintage 2025 commenced under very dry conditions, resulting in two clearly defined expressions across vineyard sites.
Early-picked parcels were sourced from vineyards with limited canopy development. Reduced shading and lower crop loads led
to a rapid accumulation of sugars, requiring close monitoring and timely harvest decisions to preserve balance and avoid
excessive ripeness. This reflects both the compressed nature of the harvest window and the accelerated ripening observed in
early sites.
Vintage: 2025 Growing season Autumn/Winter/Spring/Summer 2024/2025
Rainfall: Below average for all months
Weather: 71% average warmer days, September frost
Harvest: 16th February to 13th March. By 23 February, approximately 50% of the intake was in.
Yields: normal exception frost affected vineyards
White varietals in 2025, particularly Roussanne, showed exceptional promise. Fruit quality is high, with excellent health, natural acidity retention, and strong flavour development. These results reflect the importance of well-maintained canopies, allowing for slower, more even ripening despite dry conditions and enabling harvest at optimal physiological maturity. Two varietals of particular note in 2025 are Roussanne and Grenache, both displaying clarity, balance and strong site expression at harvest.
