Yelland and Papps Shiraz 2022
Shiraz sourced from Dorrien, Greenock, Stone Well and Light Pass; some whole bunches and eleven months of oak maturation. Deep crimson with aromas of dark plum, blackberry and black cherry supported by hints of baking spices, licorice, dark chocolate, jasmine, earth and roasting meats. Deep spicy black fruits on the palate, some graphite/coal-dust broodiness, fine grain tannins and a lovely flow of fruit and spice on the finish.
92 SILVER Dave Brookes Halliday Wine Companion 2024
A Barossa Shiraz that is more focused on good times than getting in deep, this is a great wine to splash in some glasses and kick back with.
Only 13.6% alcohol, it’s a far cry from most in the district that sit around 14.5%. Barossa Shiraz is known for its bigger styles rather than the juicy medium-ish bodied example we see here.
This 2022 shows plenty of energy and exuberance but also wants to show a little serious side. Dark plums and red berry compote with dark chocolate, there is a vitality that is carried on the shoulders of blackberries. A baked berry pie complexity can’t be missed either and that is the moreishness I keep coming back for. Some pan juices and meatiness come with the territory but it’s hard to resist going back again and again. It’s a great slurp and a delicious take on Barossa Shiraz.
Drink to five years.
