Single Vineyard Roussanne 2025

$54.00

Wine The Power of Place. For many winemakers, the pursuit of a single site has always held the deepest meaning—a chance to capture a vineyard’s true character, year in and year out. It’s something we both yearn for and deeply respect. While blending is a vital part of the winemaking craft, the purest expression of terroir comes when the site is allowed to speak without interruption. When farming, fruit, and minimal intervention align, the result is something unmistakable: a wine that reflects not just the season but the soul of the place it comes from.

Awards & Reviews

Mid yellow-gold. Arrives richly defined and intense in flavour in baked
apple, peach, honeyed citrus, pear tarte tatin, warm toasty oak and
jasmine florals in the background with a warm rounded nuttiness. Brings
a deep presence to the glass with a richness of fruit elevated by acidity
that is fresh and alive. Runs smooth and long. Now–2037

These Yelland & Papps folks are damn good at this roussanne thing; here is a single-vineyard offering from the Materne vineyard in Greenock, barrel fermented with 10 months’ maturation in 18% new French oak. Light gold with rich notes of Meyer lemon, peach, feijoa and quince. Hints of lemon verbena, poached pear, nut butter, honeysuckle, ginger cake and stone. Rich in flavour but not without savoury restraint, with a long, sustained flow of flavour and bright, lemony acidity.

Ordinarily Rhone whites and I don’t get on. However, what you see left in that glass is all that was left after an initial and somewhat tentative “let’s see” sip…

Lemons, pith, apple pie, florals, bees wax, nougat, and chamomile on the nose. Medium-bodied and fresh, with wonderful balance, concentration, and texture. Lemony with golden orchard fruits, delicate spices, and nutty qualities. And whilst the texture ventures into creamy town, the acidity is excellent and provides a mouthwatering lift through the finish. This is delicious wine. Loved it!

Green apple, spice, lemon leaf, a slight honey floral note. It’s fresh and fine, but also a little nutty and saline, a light chalky feel to texture, with a peach and citrus finish of good length. Nice wine

I must admit, I always look forward to the Yelland & Papps Roussannes. Never short on interest, their expressions across the range pique my interest no end.

Curiously, this 2025 is not as expressive as previous releases, but gee, it’s still a very good release in its own right.

It opens with scents of lemon tea, honey puffs and cashews – yes! There is a yellow flower mouth perfume that rides on the coattails of yellow peaches and poached pears. Slivers of ginger add a delightful spice with ribbons of creaminess flowing about with ease. Lemon acidity clings to a moreish finish. As always, it’s a wine that deserves serious contemplation and will excel with a decant before drinking. It’s worth noting that it should not be served too cold.
