It probably won’t come as a huge surprise when we say we love our Roussanne here at Yelland & Papps.
We have a couple of different Roussanne compositions; one, the Second Take is wild-eyed and carefree, the Devote on the other hand is a different story. On initial glance it’s refined and dapper but underneath the finely-honed exterior, it too has a wild side.
Hand-picked, barrel-fermented with wild yeast and matured on fine lees in old French oak puncheons and hogsheads (9% new) for 10 months, it is a wine that captures the pristine fruit characters of Roussanne with a textural element that draws us in every time.
You can expect flavours and aromas of apples, stone-fruits and pears, some barley notes and wafts of soft spice, grilled nuts, honey-suckle, clotted cream, nougat and white floral top-notes.
It exhibits a textural flow and bright cadence across the palate, finishing long and pure of fruit. It’s a variety close to our heart’s.
