The opportunity arose to take some time out and open some past vintages, reflect on the style, vintage, and preserving the Provence of these wines. As much as our picking times and style may have altered the vineyards haven’t, consistently there is a transparency of the vineyard coming through. Each vineyard is intrinsically unique and if we are delicate in the winemaking this will shine through visibly.
The Devote label transitioned into the Single Vineyard label, with no winemaking stylistic changes other than the label aesthetics and name.
Devote Roussanne 2011 – 2018 | Single Vineyard Roussanne 2021-2023
With a fervent relationship with Roussanne since 2011 Michael and I have been pushing boundaries on this varietal that we believe suits the Barossa Valley climate and rich earth soils. We are very serious regarding textured whites in the Barossa Valley, now releasing our third range of Roussanne and now showing Roussanne in four distinctive styles. (Brumeux only made on certain vintages) this Roussanne is made in an elegant, refined style with great texture and good acidity.
LOCATION | TERROIR Sourced from the Materne vineyard in the Greenock sub-region of the Barossa Valley, lies rich loam over red clay 300m above sea level on the northeast corner of the Greenock region. Planted on their own roots in 2001 these vines are tendered by fourth-generation grower David Materne, with vines running east-west.

A true living story of the start of Yelland & Papps to the present, since 2005 this wine has been produced every vintage from this site nestled in the crevices of the Greenock sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Greenock Shiraz is a testament to persistence through vintage variations and winemaking. The regional hero of the Barossa Valley is undoubtedly Shiraz. Every year, this has consistency and provenance, harvested by the fourth-generation grower David Materne. A Shiraz that shows the power of the Barossa, with elegance, restraint and finesse.
