A hard post to write as we are not out of the woods for the next month or so.
Here at Yelland & Papps, we have only had a few shoots on our new vineyard appear to be affected, but we are not out of the woods and a hard thing to comment about at present.
Michael has been in touch with our growers this week, and unfortunately, this is not looking good for some of them.
Our longest-standing grower from Greenock has had a severe effect of frost damage to nearly all his vineyard.
Our Stone Well grower has had a little so far but not luckily to any of the blocks we get.
Of our Vine Vale growers, one has been severely affected and the other is only one of his vineyards at this stage.
This is devasting for growers and their livelihood, but the most important thing to remember is the mental health of the continued hardship of the last few years the Wine Industry has gone through. Some were pretty fed up five years ago, so this is a very pivotal moment. A thing to think about is the unbalanced nature of this industry and its effects on everyone throughout the chain. Over the years these growers had good amounts of fruit some wineries decided to not take as much, and now they are in a position of not having as much fruit if not any at all. We are a two-way business, and we all need each other, I really do think let’s check on everyone and really ask how you are doing and be honest.
Growers are an integral part of the wine industry.
