2014 Old World Techniques | Limited Edition Grenache Shiraz

Magnum Release – 10 Years in the Making

If there was one word to describe 2014 — both in life and business — it would be hard.

Every day brought its share of challenges and difficulties; it was a tough year.

When you start a wine business, the early years are filled with all the niceties — making the wines you dream of, doing what you love every day. But that only lasts for a while. Soon enough, reality takes over. Suddenly, you’re making decisions quickly, constantly juggling demands, with no clear air to think — and plenty of voices on the sidelines telling you what you should do.

At the same time, we had two young children, four and six, who needed us more than ever — but they were also happiest simply being nearby, watching it all unfold.

By 2018, we made the decision to step back — to lock ourselves away, restructure, and return to just the two of us. Refocusing on the wine, on our business, on what truly mattered. From then on, the challenges became easier to navigate. There was more clarity, more thought, and more trust in our instincts.

This wine was born in that 2014 vintage — a year of pushing boundaries. We were experimenting, inspired, and determined to see what was possible. A grower from a new vineyard had approached us, and we wanted to explore a technique we’d only read about — to see how it would express itself through Barossa fruit.

Grenache and Shiraz were fermented and aged separately before being blended into a single expression, destined only for magnum. As life unfolded and priorities shifted, these wines quietly sat aside, resting in bottle — waiting patiently for their time.

Now, a decade on, this wine feels like a time capsule. A reminder of resilience, of growth, and that the difficult seasons eventually give way to balance and clarity.
