Wines - 2016 ON SPECIAL YP Vermentino
Originally hailing from the sun-drenched shores of Sardinia and Corsica, Vermentino has become a firm summer drinking favourite in our wine portfolio and it is easy to see why. It’s high-toned, crisp and energetic with a hint of the sea within its folds, just perfect as the warmer weather rolls in and you’ve sand or grass between your toes. On its home turf it is known by a few different monikers - Vermentinu in Corscia, Furmentin up in North-West Italy and Favorita in the Roero, also in the Piedmont region. It’s certainly one of our favorites and I’m sure it will be one of yours also. It’s a lively, quite floral little minx. Plenty of pure ripe juicy fruit aromas jump from the glass; pithy Meyer lemon, grapefruit, Granny Smith apples, guava and a touch of paw paw. There is an array of floral hints - frangipani and jasmine stand out with a touch of Christmas Lilly, soft spice, nougat, ginger cake, sea spray and lemon curd. Lively and briskly structured on the palate, the vibrant fruit, again predominantly citrus and tropical, focused nicely as it enters the mid-palate. There it shows notes of soft spice, frangipani, almond paste, pine nuts and lighter notes of nettle and scattered herbs. Dry on the finish with crisp acidity and a lovely citrus/floral flourish. Matches perfectly of board-shorts/bikini and thongs.
The Kalleske Vineyard was the first to be picked on the 17th of February followed a couple of days later by the Mader vineyard on the 19th of February 2016.
The batches were cold settled and blended together to tank and 20% old french barrels where they went through a natural ferment using wild yeast and naturally went through malo. Five months on yeast lees helped develop some texture prior to racking, stabilising and filtering to bottle.

Cropping between 3 and 4 tonnes per acre the vineyards were picked mid February when optimum flavours and balance were achieved.

From the Kalleske and Mader Vineyards, wildfermented
in tank and 20% in used French oak,
matured for 5 months on lees. This is V8 powered,
with a level of flavour that takes it onto another level,
stone fruit surrounded by pink grapefruit and Meyer
lemon within a silken wrap of texture. Really
