Wines - 2019 Second Take Shiraz
Straight up the first thing you notice is the bright crimson red colour with dark purple hues, which set
up the aroma profile of captivating deep earthy forest dark fruits.
On the palate this Shiraz is medium weight, smooth tannins, long depth of forest fruits but with this
beauty of lightness that is delicate and alluring.
Fruit for the Second Take Shiraz was hand picked at the end of February and placed into Puncheons
for 100% whole bunch fermentation (also known as Carbonic Maceration). Allowed to sit in barrel
and ferment for 14 days to give stunning aromatics and brightness, the fruit was liberated from
barrels by our east coast distributor team Franc About Wines who split in teams in a bid to hold
bragging rights. Victoria won the race but there may have been a few less bunches in their barrel.
Basket pressed and matured in older French oak Puncheons for 11 months. Small portions of three
other vineyards were added to the final blend to bring structure and balance to the wine prior to
bottling unfined and unfiltered. Final Blend is 62% Whole Bunch

on a back foot. An early season start to picking ensured most fruit ripened quicker due to smaller
YP Estate Susan & Michael Papps - Ober Langmeil (Dorrien ) 1995 - Grower / Vineyard
We purchased this vineyard in January 2010, which surrounds our homestead, Cottage and winery.
Since 2010 we have been able to successfully run this vineyard for ten years on organic principles
with no over head sulphur/ copper sprays. Keeping weed management down with the help of our
Dorper/Damara sheep and mowing and whipper snippering. This vineyard runs north / south which
we are constantly looking at canopy management and sun ripening.
This year our home estate block of Shiraz has made up a large portion of the blend of the 2019
Second Take Shiraz. This Shiraz has improved as the years and difficult vintages arise, with coping
with dry seasons and frost effects, the soil is a rich sandy loam over clay.
