Wines - 2019 Second Take Grenache

Second Take

The Wine

Stunning light and bright strawberry colour that sets this wine up for the nose and palate.
With a gorgeous aromatic herbal cherry character (pinot noir like) with hints of sweet green stems
and a slight menthol characteristic.
This Grenache is smooth with soft tannins and a beautiful palate length and balance of acidity.
Fond memories of our 2011 Devote Old Vine Grenache are present and pleasantly reminising.

The Winemaking

The Second Take Grenache is picked in early March allowing some natural acidity to the wine. The
fruit is all hand picked and delivered to our winery bin by bin as we are extremely lucky to live at
the other end of the road of the Schild vineyard. As fruit is delivered we select picking bins for
whole bunching and bins for whole berry ferment. A portion of the fruit is placed in an open
fermenter with 50% whole bunch on the bottom and 50% whole berry on top.
A portion is placed into puncheons as complete whole bunches and left for carbonic maceration,
and the remaining portion is left in a picking bin for some old fashion foot stomping. These wines
spend an average of 14 days on skins and then basket pressed back to puncheons, with an average
of 14% new French oak for the next 11 months.
