Wines - 2013 Devote Sparkling Vermentino
We love Vermentino table wines for their vibrant citrus flavours and snappy acidity. We also love it when it has bubbles in it! Pale straw in the glass with energetic bubbles making the surface of the wine come alive, the Yelland & Papps Sparkling Vermentino show vibrant aromas of lemon, grapefruit and white peach with a splash of nectarine and nashi pear for good measure. Hints of clotted cream and lemon curd float out of the glass also with notes of nougat, marzipan and light, freshly cut fennel hints further in the background.
In the mouth the bubbles seem to accentuate the initial fruit attack showing hints of freshly quizzed lime and lemon along with hints of grapefruit, white peach and nectarine. The wine bounces enthusiastically across the palate showing hints of lemon myrtle, lemon curd, almond paste, marzipan and creme fraiche. Great clarity and energy though out its length as the minerally, crisp acidity propels the wine along with great gusto and drive. The finish focuses and lingers persistently with pear and apple flavours joining the fray late in the piece. Great, vibrant lemony drinking whenever you or your friends need a lift or something to celebrate.
The grapes were handpicked on 11th February at 10.7 baume, crushed and pressed, and cold fermented to maintain maximum fruit freshness. This wine was then filtered prior to second fermentation in bottle, and spent 6 months on yeast lees prior to disgorgement.
This is a variety that we love and are passionate about, we have growers that feel exactly the same. This makes this wine very special to us and it is all from a gut feel of what we think we ought to do.
