Our Wines - 2012 Devote Greenock Shiraz
We love Greenock. There’s something about the vineyards over near the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley. It’s the classic Barossa fruit profile that you’ve come to love and that’s why we head there to source the fruit for our single-vineyard Greenock Shiraz…. that and it’s got a great pub. Deep red/purple in the glass the 2012 Yelland & Papps Devote Greenock Shiraz shows rich, opulent fruit aromas of macerated plums, blackberry, black cherry with hints of macerated raspberry, redcurrant and strawberry compote. A flourish of deep spice, dark chocolate, Barossa earth, roast coffee beans, kirsch and well-judged oak notes.
Supple and velvety with great flow across the palate the wine shows fruit flavours of deep, juicy dark plum, blackberry, creme de cassis, kirsch along with macerated strawberry and mulberry notes. Hints of deep Asian and baking spices, sultry, well-judged oak, espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, ironstone and deep Barossa earth and some high-tones of violets and jasmine. Unctuous and mouth-filling, with a great texture and flow on the palate, supple and concentrated. 2012 was a cracking vintage in the Barossa and Greenock delivered the goods! Classic Barossa goodness - rich, balanced and concentrated with cracking bright acidity. Get it in your belly.
Fermented on skins in an open fermenter for 14 days and then gently basket pressed, this small parcel of wine was then transferred to new (15%) and old (85%) American (32%) and French (68%) hogs heads for 22 months of maturing. Once matured the wine was bottled unfiltered and then spent 4 months maturing in bottle in our warehouse prior to release.

The grapes were grown on the out skirts of Greenock, home of some of the most extraordinary grapes. Vines were planted in the mid 1980’s in sandy loam topsoil over light clay. Cropped at 2.1 tonnes per acre.
The vineyard was harvested on 29th February when optimum flavours and balance were achieved in the grape.

Love this wine from this subregion of the Barossa. So dense and concentrated yet with a smooth elegance and suppleness.
Traditional basket pressing and then maturation in French Oak has contributed to that velvety classic structure.
